A filter that is not maintained regularly will eventually stop working. The filter should be replaced a few times a year as contaminants will build up in the filter. These contaminants can get into your water if the filter is clogged. Most filters can be maintained by the homeowner but some require a professional to perform the maintenance. When choosing a water filter, take into account the maintenance costs associated with the filter.
